More active choices for buyers also mean more direct competition for sellers.
This is the share with at least one asking-price reduction, not the number of cuts this week.
The midpoint for active listings. It isn’t the time it took sold homes to close.
Homes entered and left the active pool this period. “Left” can include pending, withdrawn, or other removals; it isn’t a sold count.
Altos’ supply-and-demand measure. A higher reading generally indicates firmer seller leverage.
One week doesn’t establish a shift. These are the changes I’ll follow before adjusting my advice.
If new homes consistently outnumber those leaving active inventory, buyers gain choice, and sellers face more competition.
A rising share of active homes with reductions could mean initial asking prices are missing buyer expectations. I’ll look at the homes and price ranges behind the figure.
Longer marketing time alongside rising inventory and a falling index would be stronger evidence of buyer leverage.
Ask what these Walnut Creek numbers could mean for buying, selling, or doing both. The guide uses Ravi’s published resources and this report’s plain-English explanations.
The guide can explain market concepts and Ravi’s published approach. It doesn’t provide a home valuation, guarantee a result, or verify private MLS details.
Altos measures active asking-market conditions. A price reduction isn’t a closed-sale discount, and the median asking price isn’t a home-value estimate. The Market Action Index, inventory, and market time should be read together and over multiple weeks. Conditions vary by neighborhood, price range, and property type.
Tell me whether you’re buying, selling, or doing both, and I’ll compare the market with the homes and timing that matter to you.

Inventory is unchanged at 61 listings. The median list price is $1.55M, down 4.8% from the prior week. Altos reports a Market Action Index of 45, below last month’s 46 reading, and describes the market as “Strong Seller's Market.” Median market time is 35 days, while 39.3% of active listings have recorded a price decrease.
Price reductions are present in a meaningful share of the active inventory. Buyers should compare recent positioning carefully and distinguish motivated listings from homes that are still testing the market.
Homes are moving at a comparatively active pace, but presentation and initial pricing still determine whether a listing benefits from that demand.
